Visconti started manufacturing pens in celluloid in the late 1980's early 1990s.
A few early series were manufactured with vintage celluloid and marketed with vintage gold plated nibs, too.
The Ragtime series was introduced in the early 1990s and was manufactured in wide range of pearlescent colors.
The pens are piston fillers in one single size. The design of the pens was meant to recall the style of the early decade of the 1900's.
The name Ragtime itself makes reference to the typical music of the time, considered as the ancestor of Jazz and represented in the world famous Ragtime movie by Milos Forman, issued in 1981.
The Ragtime is therefore a modern pen with an ancient soul.
The elusive VISCONTI Ragtime Leonardo da Vinci here offered for sale is the result of a fruitful collaboration between “Accademia Italiana della Penna Stilografica” founded by Letizia Iacopini (together with her father) and Visconti.
It surely is the most sought after and iconic model among the Ragtime series.
It comes with its Visconti presentation box (worn), outer box, certificate of origin and Visconti traveling inkwell.
Never used, never inked.
From the collection of a distinguished Italian Collector. The original retail was £250.000,00 Italian Lire.
This example is crafted from unique celluloid, with green, blue, violet tones. The trim is gold-plated.

Questa stilografica, prodotta in esclusiva da Visconti per i Soci dell'Accademia
Italiana della Penna Stilografica è stata dedicata a Leonardo da Vinci, il grandissimo personaggio che ha saputo applicare la penna ad ogni campo dello scibile umano, per scrivere, per annotare, per disegnare, per progettare.
Il materiale che è stato scelto per questa serie limitata non poteva essere altro che la celluloide, che sola può ancora renderci il gusto dell'esclusività ed unicità di ogni singola penna, in un'epoca ormai dominata dalla produzione in serie.
La serie limitata Leonardo da Vinci è prodotta dalla ditta Visconti in vera celluloide, in esclusiva per i Soci dell'Accademia Italiana della Penna Stilografica.
Il materiale è stato fabbricato seguendo la procedura originale dei fratelli Hyatt del 1869 ed ha avuto una stagionatura preventiva di oltre 120 giorni.
Ciascuno dei 130 esemplari è lavorato e finito completamente a mano e dotato
di pennino in oro 14 Kt.
Sull’ estremità del cappuccio è riprodotto lo stemma dell'Accademia Italiana della Penna Stilografica con la dicitura “Accademia Italiana”.
L'incisione sul serbatoio riporta il nome della penna "Leonardo da Vinci" ed il numero di tessera di ogni singolo socio.
L'Accademia Italiana della Penna Stilografica garantisce la numerazione di ciascuna penna in relazione al numero di tessera di ogni Accademico per l'anno 1992.
