This is an oak milliners hat block in excellent condition.

'Hat blocks are wooden forms in the shape of a hat. Hat-making materials, like sinamay or felt, were stretched over these blocks to create a hat. They were also used to hold a hat while it was being repaired or altered. In more recent times, they are used to put hats on display'

The stand is made from black-painted iron, cast in intricate detail with a brass upright.
