WW2 Medals - War & Defence

We have just bought a large mixed lot of WW2 War and Defence medals, some of which are named.

They are mainly South African, some with numbers that begin "N" for Native, and some that begin "C" for Coloured. There were a total of 25 Prefixes for South African numbers, some of which reveal details of service, though they mostly reveal details of ethnicity, which seems very out of step with modern thinking.

When the numbering began there was a "J" prefix for Jewish, but this was soon dropped due to its associations with Third Reich practices.

A good unresearched batch of named medals with much scope for further research.

The Escott medal appears to be privately named and he is probably a UK recipient, possibly Civil Defence, as it is a short number.

Unfortunately, because we bought in bulk we have no ribbons.
