Skin Deep by Charles Burns
Published by Fantagraphics Books October 2012. Second Softcover Edition. First Softcover Edition Published May 2009.
8.9 x 0.4 x 11.9 inches. 96 pages. Black and white illustrations.

Three stories of twisted humour in which a boy with a dog's heart tries to find love, a man preaches the word of God ... or something else, and a woman discovers the reason for her husband's lack of passion.

Charles Burns is the creator of the landmark horror graphic novel Black Hole, currently in production as a major motion picture directed by David Fincher. Skin Deep is the third (following El Borbah and Big Baby) of a series of three volumes collecting his acclaimed oeuvre up to Black Hole. Skin Deep includes Burns' popular character Dog Boy (a red-blooded all-American boy with the transplanted heart of a dog, featured in shorts on MTV's cult classic Liquid Television show). The book also collects "Burn Again," and "A Marriage Made in Hell." These tales of doomed romance set a tone for the rest of Skin Deep. In addition to the comics, Skin Deep includes several pages of illustrations reprinted from Burns' sketchbooks as well as covers and other pieces from foreign editions of the author's work.

Features the classic strip "Dog Days," in which a hash-slinging vixen wags her tail at our fearful hero, and other tales of love, doomed romance, and other mysteries. All richly rendered in Burns' deep, dark, award-winning inking style.
