Beautiful antique Wedgwood light blue jasperware oval cameo (medallion) with a detailed and protruding white "Cupid Shaving His Bow" relief, after [Antonio da] Correggio (Italian artist of the Renaissance period; 1489-1534), some attributed it to [Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola] Parmigianino (Italian artist of the Renaissance period; 1503-1540).
Cameo is a very rare piece of Wedgwood, first noted in the 1773 Catalogue (#27), several copies of which are part of prominent Wedgwood collections, such as The British Museum (https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/H_1887-0307-I-625) and The Birmingham Museum of Art (https://www.artsbma.org/collection/cupid-shaving-his-bow/). More recent variations (mid-1800s) used a more 'simple' relief (e.g., https://www.1stdibs.com/jewelry/necklaces/pendant-necklaces/antique-amor-cupid-pale-blue-wedgwood-pendant-9-karat-red-gold-lovetoken/id-j_18882042/)
Cameo has a few minor chips at the edge (pic. 7-9). Other than that there are no visible defects, only age appropriate ware. Please review the
posted pics for more details and let us know if you'd like to see more. Questions are encouraged and welcome.
Dimensions: 2 5/8" x 2".
Marks: "WEDGWOOD" (only; early mark: curve, impressed by individual letters); late 1700s.
