Description
This is a charming little piece of "Play Money" from a long time ago. What makes it a desirable collectible is the portrait of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
The most important single person of the 20th Century, Franklin Roosevelt came to the Presidency when the nation was in the grips of the "Great Depression." While Roosevelt did not have all the answers, he did have the knowledge to know he had to do something to get the country moving again and he did that with the "New Deal."
As his Presidency progressed, he saw the growing threat from Hitler and he knew how serious it was. He also knew he had to awaken America to the danger and he knew America did not want to wake up. By his deft handling of the situation, helping the Allies when he could, confronting the dictators when he could, he got America ready enough to win the war.
Weight: 1.27 Grams, 16 Millimeters, Brass.

This is the second Roosevelt design for “Lucky Play Money” that I know of. I have had and sold a different, right facing portrait. I have had a number of those but this is the only example of the left facing portrait I’ve seen. This is also larger and heavier than those so it is probably earlier.
The "Coin": It got played with and bounced around some since then. While it is not the most elegant portrait of this great man, it is an unusual one, and has earned its place in the large and varied collection of his portraits. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
