Acacia tortilis
( 5 Seeds )

Botanical nomenclature: Acacia tortilis
Common name: Umbrella Thorn Tree
Family: Fabaceae

Very widespread and very common on the Arabian Peninsula and over the drier parts of the African continent in bush, scrub and woodlands, the typical broad, flat, umbrella-shaped crown of this iconic tree is immediately associated with the African savanna. It grows into a moderately large tree with pinnate foliage and clusters of strongly scented, white flowers. Acacia tortilis is extremely hardy to drought, wind, poor and saline soils. It is a source of wood, fodder, tannins and gum arabic. Seeds should briefly be immersed in boiling water before sowing.
