In early 1933, John Frank established Frank Potteries (later Frankoma Pottery). Frankoma pottery is a true expression of Oklahoma’s rich landscape. John Frank used two distinct clay types in his pottery, which was a classic of Oklahoma pottery, if the clay used appears tan, it was made from an Idaho clay mine near the southern Oklahoma town of Ada prior to 1955. Most pieces of art were made from red Sapulpa clay until 1955.
Frankoma closed in 2010.
