Pentart Fineline Crackle Varnish is oil-based, two component crackle varnish to create antique, cracked surfaces. This product dries clear, and is perfect over your decoupage or mixed media projects.

1. Apply the first coat with a clean, soft, dry brush. Step One will go on milky, but will dry clear. Cover your project completely in a nice thick coat. Allow to dry completely.
2. With a clean, soft, dry brush, Apply Step 2. The thicker you apply it, the wide apart the cracks will be. The depth and the network of the cracks depends on the thickness of the layer and on the technique of the application.
3. Let dry completely overnight. If you would like to speed up this process, or if you don't feel like you have had enough cracking, use a heat gun to accelerate the cracking. Don't over heat! The layer will dry transparent and waterproof.
4. Antiquing: The best Pentart products to use as your wax are the Antique Pastes or the Liquid Patinas. Apply your wax to your finger, start rubbing in a circular motion. Use a baby wipe to lightly clean off excess, and allow to dry.
5. Sealing: The Fine Line Crackle needs an oil-based sealer, NOT water-based.  A way to think of this is sealing with a solvent based sealed "finalizes" the chemical reaction that was created to make the crackle. Fun huh? Science!
