Description

This is a World War II veteran, but still very nice and quite crispy, "Two Lire" note of "Allied Military Currency" from occupied Italy.

When the United States first entered World War II in Europe with “Operation Torch”, the invasion of French North Africa with the British, they succeeded in clearing Africa of Germans and Italians. Roosevelt and Churchill then decided on an invasion of Italy, starting with Sicily.

Generals Mark Clark, George Patton and Bernard Montgomery fought their bloody way over the island, on to the mainland and all the way up the peninsula, taking Rome the day before D-Day in 1944.

"World War II Allied Military Currency" by Raymond S. Toy & Carlton F. Schwan. (Fourth Edition) #44.
