A mounted, framed cream/black representation of Vermilion Bird, one of China's mythological creatures.
Also known as Jujak (Korea) or Suzaku (Japan), it is one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations (Si Xiang),
along with White Tiger, Black Tortoise and Azure Dragon.

According to Wu Xing, the Taoist five-elemental system, it represents the Fire element, the direction, south,
and the season, summer. It is occasionally confused with Feng Huang, due to similarities in appearance, but
the two are different creatures.

The round, clay representation (diameter of 13 cm) simulates the Chinese traditional form of Wadang (raised sculpture on eaves tiles in China) and it is attached to two mounted cloth backing board insets within its deep-set silver acrylic frame. The back of the frame is well sealed and covered with felt cloth. A solid triangular hook sees it ready to hang.

The dimensions of the outer frame are 40 x 40 x 4.5 cm. The weight of this art piece is 2.576 kg.
