The cheerful, sweet Hoptimists were originally designed by Danish cabinetmaker Hans Gustav Ehrenreich (1917-1984) in 1968. In keeping with the spirit of the day, his figures were characterised by their bright colours and rounded shapes. Ehrenreich participated at several international exhibitions, receiving many honours for his craftsmanship both at home in Denmark and abroad.

The Hoptimist smiles at you and waits for your response.
Maybe a smile back, perhaps a slight tap to get the figure moving. The Hoptimist repays you by bouncing up and down, powered by surplus energy. Just as you knew it would just as it does every time.

Children intuitively know that. They realize immediately what the Hoptimist gives them back when they touch it. The same childish expectation aims adults to raise their hand and to press the Hoptimist slightly. The rest is mechanics. When the energy of your hands presses the feathers together, the figure comes to life. It is not much and not for a long time, but exactly as we expected it to be.
