We are pleased to be offering this nice walnut heavily and excessively carved china closets that most likely is Italian. It dates from the 1860s to 1870s and is in its original condition. Starting at the top there is a lion head carved into both center blocks on the step out molding. In the center there are lion faces with bodies and fleur-delis and there are winged griffins underneath the shelf supports. There is fleur-de-lis carvings and dragons carved throughout both sides of the tree bark solid wood carved posts that are supported with full wing griffin lions. Underneath the full wing griffins holding up the outside pillars are maidens carved out of solid wood and below that is what appears to be a werewolf with claw feet holding up the base. In the center drop down panel are two serpents or dragons with a big north wind face in the center. I don’t know if I can count how many there are at once but there are close to 20 carved figures on this cabinet as there are even some on the sides. Take time to view the numerous pictures of this cabinet because I haven’t seen anything like this in my over 50 years in the business. This is a top-of-the-line china closet that will make a statement in your dining room. The overall size of the cabinet starting with the base first is 52 inches wide, 27 inches deep and 23 inches tall. The bookcase top is 66 inches tall, 46 inches wide and 13 inches deep. The overall height is 89 inches high. The three glass shelves are 10 inches deep. The top is heavy crown molded. The door, cabinet and base is unbelievable. It is in a dark walnut finish. This is a great museum quality piece that has a lot of age and character. The front drop down lid opens to reveal a storage cavity. There are a couple of cracks on the floorboard of the storage cavity that we will detail out prior to shipping. This cabinet will break down for ease of moving.
