Here's a scarce large size early black basalt inkwell from the late 1700s or early 1800 period....no embossing..(quill pen is only shown for display and does not come with the inkwell)....It has 4 small holes for holding quill feather ink pens around a larger central hole for dipping into the ink .....engine turned design around the outside surface.....2 1/8"tall x 3 1/4"round....Excellent condition with no chips or damage (except one tiny nick on underside edge of rim).  Although unmarked it is probably Wedgwood because they produced many of the early basaltware inkwells. I guarantee this basalt inkwell is over 200 years old....
