Introduced in January of 1983- Retired in December 1985. 
On the older vintage pieces of Department 56 you can tell how many times they've been displayed by the number (layers) of packing tape on it's original shipping box. 
When shipped, the piece's factory box will be wrapped in high-end U-line plastic & bubble/or foam wrapped 
before placed in a shipping box; sometimes the factory box can be rarer and just as precious as the piece.
