Chirashi

Chirashi are mini-posters, sometimes referred to as flyers or handbills, used to advertise movies in Japan.

Due to the fact they are only available from theaters while the movie is showing,
they are collectible movie memorabilia and rise in value based on age and scarcity.

Chirashi are, in general, high quality poster prints printed on high quality paper.

CHIRASHI ARE USUALLY A B5 SIZE OR ABOUT 18CM X 26CM, PLUS OR MINUS.

 Sometimes, chirashi may be a different format, i.e., two or more sheets folded together joined by a spine.

What's unique about Japanese chirashi posters is that much of the artwork
is custom created for the Japanese market, with a distinctive Japanese design.

The Japanese chirashi poster will often look quite different to the artwork available in other countries...
in many cases the design is superior.

And, some innovative released chirashi includes a fold-out and specialty prints you won't find anywhere else.

Due to their handy size and low cost, they are, by far, the most popular size of posters
among Japanese collectors as well as collectors of movie memorabilia worldwide.

DESCRIPTION OF THE CHIRASHI ARTWORK

This beautiful chirashi conveys Drew Struzan's conceptual "a boy who may bring balance to the Force,
but the long dormant Sith resurface to claim their original glory..." poster design.

It contains a dark frame around the red/purplish overtones illustration with sunspots and glare streams spilling into it.

The main image is made up of a collage of characters including, Anakin Skywalker, Qui-Gon Jinn, Padmé Amidala, C-3PO
and R2-D2, Obi-wan Kenobi, Jar Jar Binks, an N-1 starfighter,
and the red/black face of the major antagonist Darth Maul, set behind the cast looking menacing in the background.

The poster has the tagline - "すべての伝説には、始まりがある." (Every legend has a beginning) at the top
and the cast and credit information at the bottom.

The Star Wars: エピソード1 / ファントム・メナス logo is found in the bottom third of the poster,
along with the Lucasfilm Ltd., Dolby Digital, Digital DTS Sound, SDDS, THX, and 20th Century Fox emblems.

Drew's signature can be found on the left-hand side of the artwork.

"Printed in Japan" (Version B) - it also has the Eirin (映倫 10326) mark in the lower right-hand corner.

This chirashi is actually an accurate "mini-poster"
from the larger Japanese poster
STAR WARS: EPISODE I - THE PHANTOM MENACE.

I would condition this chirashi as perfect for a collection...it would be beautiful framed!

Overall solid and complete;
Sharp corners and straight clean edges;
No wrinkles or paper distortions;
No creases or corner folds;
(Excepting couple ultra-soft folds (no paper break) which are insignificant)
No pinholes or marks;
No tears, tape or missing pieces;
No fading or stains;
Beautiful solid and clear colors.

Beautiful NM condition chirashi.

All of our Chirashi are ORIGINAL PRINTINGS.
We do not sell any copies or reprints.

B5 CHIRASI

Our B5 Chirashi posters are almost always in Excellent or Near Mint condition.
Where this is not the case, please see the listing for further details.
Due to the fact that Chirashi are generally preserved in excellent condition,
the grading scale is more strict than that usually employed for larger posters.

Note:
If you are buying chirashi for framing then you need not worry too much about our grading,
as all of our posters have no significant defects that would be noticeable when framed.
Our grading is, for the most part, chiefly for collectors who are fanatical about condition.

Grade

Description

Mint

Brand new, unused, flawless. *We don't grade any of our chirashi as Mint, as we only sell original and authentic theatre-used chirashi. By this very definition, they are 'used' and therefore cannot be Mint.

Near Mint

Our top grade. No visible flaws, but may show very minor signs of age, such as soft corners.

Excellent/Near Mint

Not quite "Near Mint", but close to it.

Excellent

No major flaws that detract from the poster, but may have some of the following: tiny or light corner crease, compression indentations from storage, possible minor tear boarder only, age discoloration. Most collectors would be happy with this grade.

Very Good/Excellent

No major flaws but has a number of minor imperfections.

Very Good

Has a visible defect such as a crease, or an accumulation of minor defects. Details of imperfections will be listed. This grade is still more than suitable for framing - but collectors that are fanatical about condition should wait for a better copy to come available. (Bear in mind that we reluctantly stock posters in this grade, and only when it is the best available.)

Unacceptable

Chirashi that show one or more readily visible flaws such as large creases, rips, tape marks, or hole punches. We do not sell chirashi in this grade.
