Cast solid bronze

Thought to have been fitted on a Royal Navy ship. Alternatively, could have been an RAF Scramble Bell.

25cm diameter x 25cm high.

Engraved to the top: Mears & Co, London & 10" (size)

Good used condition for age, with some wear, marks, scratches and discolouration. Please note, that the clapper is a later addition, so not original.

There is a lot of information available online regarding the history of Mears / Whitechapel Bell Foundry, which was said to be the oldest company in the UK, who cast some of the most famous bells in the world including Big Ben and The Liberty Bell etc
