The form of fluorescein disodium salt is known as uranin or D & C Yellow No. 8. Fluorescein disodium salt is highly soluble in water and has a stronger fluorescence than fluorescein.
The use of fluorescein includes a water-soluble dye added to rainwater during environmental simulation tests to identify and analyze any water leaks, as well as in methylated alcohol dye in Australia and New Zealand.
Fluorescein dye solutions, usually 15% active, are commonly used as a means to detect leaks during hydrostatic tests under water. Leaks can be detected by ultraviolet divers.
