This is an unusual antique hat pin featuring a large brown seed/ nut top (looks to be a hazelnut), secured by an ornate metal setting. Judging by the length, this is Victorian or Edwardian.

Length: 18cm (7”)
Weight: 6.1 grams
Decoration: Brown seed/ nut (2cm or ¾ inch long)
Condition: Fairly good antique condition, tarnishing to the metal, small crack on the nut top. The nut is also ever so slightly loose within the metal setting.

Would make a lovely item for display, or gift for a collector.

“As far back as the Middle Ages in Britain and Europe, pins were used as a device to securely hold the wimples and veils that proper ladies used to cover their hair in place. These small pins and wires were used for hundreds of years.” American Hat Pin society

“Laws were passed in 1908 in the United States that limited the length of hatpins, as there was a concern they might be used by suffragettes as weapons. Also by the 1910s, ordinances were passed requiring hatpin tips to be covered so as not to injure people accidentally.” Wikipedia
