Description

This is a fairly rare, professionally certified and graded “Official Medal” or “So-Called Dollar” from the “Cotton States and International Exposition” that was held in Atlanta, Georgia in 1895. It was struck at the United States Mint in Philadelphia.
 
It was held to celebrate both the resurgence of the Cotton Industry and the City of Atlanta after the fires and destruction of the Civil War. It had participation from 36 of the then 45 States and 22 foreign countries. It was open from September 18 until December 31, 1895 and drew around 800,000 people.

Reverse of the Medal but Obverse of the Holder: OFFICIAL SOUVENIR MEDAL • HENRY W. GRADY • Henry Grady was the Editor of the Atlanta “Constitution” newspaper.

The Coin: It has been certified and graded by the prestigious third-party grading service Numismatic Guaranty Corporation or (NGC). Even though it has been professionally graded, that is just an opinion and grading is subjective, so please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
