Built by famous landscape architect Charles Frederick Eaton in 1890, the house became famous for its gardens and the lavish garden parties Eaton and his wife hosted for the well-to-do of Montecito. Eaton organized the first Santa Barbara Flower Festival in 1891 and designed the Santa Barbara County booth at the Columbian World Exposition in Chicagoin 1894.
