Red top edge, deckled bottom and foredge. Red and black printed title page with decorative border. Decorative initials and musical score as endpiece. All 39 Adventures of the Niebelungen-Lied with descriptive steel engraving and decorative border with title line. The introduction by Max von Boehn, "The Nibelungen in Art," is profusely illustrated with tipped-in and printed b/w reproductions of frescos, paintings, drawings, woodcuts, engravings and lithographs by various artists including Heinrich Wilhelm Ritter, Karl Philipp Fohr, Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld, W. von Kaulbach, Moritz von Schwind, Melchior Lechter, Arnold Böcklin, Hans Thoma and others. The title page illustrations for the 39 adventures are by Eduard Bendemann, Julius Hübner, Alfred Rethel and T. Stilke. The binding is fashioned after a book from the Abbey Benediktbeuren around 1502. The volume belonging to the collection Eduard Grisebach is located in the library of the Craft museum in Berlin. Our edition was printed by Otto von Holten in Berlin and bound at the Askanischer Verlag. Text in German, Gothic script. Binding reinforced with binding tap at front and back gutter.
