The Principality of Hutt River was situated some 600 km north of Perth, Western Australia and is an Independent Sovereign State having seceded from the Commonwealth of Australia on 21st April 1970. The Head of State was the late HRH Prince Leonard. His son, Prince Graeme, had taken over the reigns of the Province.  For many years he printed his own stamps, issued his own coins and notes and also issued his own passports to visitors from all over the world.
