Isoeugenol is found in essential oils. Clove oil contains mainly cis-isoeugenol, and eugenol basil and colluria oil contains trans-isoeugenol.

Isoeugenol is widely used for the preparation of perfume compositions, as fragrances for soap and cosmetics, for flavoring food products, and previously for producing vanillin. Isoeugenol derivatives are also used: methyl ether, isoeugenol acetate in perfumery; diisoeugenol as an antioxidant for fragrances.
