This is an original 1890s Radam's Microbe Killer No.1 gallon stoneware jug which was sold with a notorius quack patent "cure all" medicine which claimed to cure all diseases! .... WM.RADAM'S MICROBE KILLER NO.1 in bold black underglaze print on front shoulder.....White glazed stoneware....applied handle....one gallon size....10 3/4"tall....Excellent condition with only a couple small shallow chips at base edge; no other damage. A nice clean jug with no stain.  Big amber glass bottles from this company are dated 1883 and have a man clubbing a skeleton trade mark....the claim is made boldly on the bottle CURES ALL DISEASES. When the U.S.government passed the Pure Food & Drugs Act in 1906, they came after Radam for false advertising, etc. Samples of the Microbe Killer were analyzed and found to contain 99% water and 1% acid. Needless to say, the "Microbe Killer" was a notorius fraud and did no medical good. The government raided Radam's warehouse and destroyed all the bottles and jugs they could find .
