Compiled by Susan Kempler & Doreen Rappaport - And The Women Rose: Vol. 2 - Album

Volume 2 of this two-part compilation consists of short biographies and famous statements made by 14 influential American women who fought for gender equality in the 19th and 20th centuries. These women “made important and lasting contributions in their occupations and/or commitments to American Life” (album liner notes). Included in this collection are selections read by the series’ producers, Doreen Rappaport and Susan Kemplar, about renowned cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead, former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt, feminist writer Betty Friedan, and Shirley Chisolm, the first African American woman elected to Congress. The liner notes include a transcript of the tracks and short biographies of the featured women.
