What are the performance requirements for gaskets?

Since the cylinder head and cylinder block are not rigid bodies, tightening the head bolts causes deflection, and the gap between the mating surfaces and the surface pressure distribution are not uniform. Furthermore, during operation, the conditions are constantly changing due to explosion pressure and vibration, and the mating surfaces are continuously being knocked. Therefore, cylinder head gaskets must have a surface pressure distribution suitable for sealing performance, and must have a structure and material that can follow changes in the gap between the faces to ensure surface pressure.

This gasket is a stopper type gasket for supercharger tuning, which has been further strengthened.

A stopper is placed around the combustion chamber hole to ensure sealing performance due to high surface pressure. By integrating the stopper continuously with the plate, the width of the fold can be reduced. Also, since the bead plate can be overlapped on the stopper without a step on one side, both the stopper and the bead can be placed around the combustion chamber hole even when the space between the holes is narrow, achieving a high sealing effect. In addition, when the thicknesses are the same, there are more plates than other types, and each plate is thinner than the others, making it more flexible and capable of following distortions between surfaces.

Opposed bead stopper type

The water holes and head bolt holes are "independent bead," which is the mainstream bead shape in racing. Even if combustion gas escapes due to high power specifications or deterioration, the water holes are independently beaded to reduce the possibility of overheating.

BEAD TYPE HEAD GASKET

This type of gasket with a bead, which is a kind of spring, has excellent performance as a cylinder head gasket in terms of securing and following the surface pressure. The beads are laid out so that the surface pressure distribution is optimized around the combustion chamber holes and oil holes, which require high sealing performance. The surface pressure distribution is also controlled by slightly changing the height and shape of the bead depending on the location. There are two types of bead cross-sectional shapes: mountain beads and flat beads. Opposing beads are used when higher surface pressure is required.
