Authentic Tamaya sextant, made by Tamaya Co. Ltd, Tokyo, Japan, appears to be made sometime between 1950 and 1954, in good condition. This is a real Tamaya, not a knockoff from India. Flat green frame suggests military history.  6" silvered arc inlaid in brass frame. Steel index arm. 4 power x 6 degree scope, mounts in an adjustable rising piece by a locking tab. The scope focusing mechanism has a detent at the infinitely setting which is very convenient. The scope mounts in the rising piece using a three segment interrupted thread.

The mirrors have been replaced with plain glass mirrors as the original silvering was very hazy and nearly unusable. The edges of the replacement mirrors are a little jagged, but it does not affect functionality. The old mirrors are included which can be resilvered if desired.

The night light wiring was very brittle and has been removed since the battery compartment was hopelessly corroded.

Four square index shades are in fine shape, as are the three round horizon shades.

The arc rack gear appears to have very little wear and the micrometer dial operates smoothly with no play.

The black plastic auxiliary knob on the micrometer drum is missing about one third of it’s circumference due to breakage, but does not affect functionality.

There is no box included with the sextant. It is packed securely in nested cardboard boxes.

The sextant has been cleaned, oiled and adjusted to a fully functional condition with the exception of the night light. It uses a Plath style, square stud adjusting tool, which is included. Perpendicularity has been adjusted to near zero, Side error has purposely been left with a small error to aid in sighting. Index error has been adjusted down to 3 minutes on arc. A safety neck lanyard is included. No wooden case is included. Shipping to Continental US only.
