Between 1955 and 1975 Spain issued a huge number of definitive stamps depicting General Franco in the design shown.

Generalissimo Francisco Franco Bahamonde (1892-1975) led the Nationalists to victory in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). 

He then ruled Spain as dictator, often known as El Caudillo (Leader).
