In recent years, the US Navy has accelerated the pace of adjusting its military structure, creating "distributed maritime operations" and vigorously developing offensive unmanned vessels to ensure maritime superiority while improving survival capabilities. The MUSV "Ranger" and the same class "Mariner" were both part of the US Navy's "Ghost Fleet Overlord" program. This class of ship was originally designed for the petroleum industry and has a long aft deck that can accommodate several large-sized cargo containers that have been converted into vertical missile launchers. By using these equipments, the "Ranger" successfully tested the Standard 6 anti-aircraft missile before, and will also test the launch of cruise missiles and anti-ship missiles in the future. The US Navy believes that the combat power of the ship can rival that of a destroyer.
