A vintage Beaulieu R16 camera in ‘used’ physical condition. It is supplied with one battery and its original battery charger.
It is years (possibly decades) since this was last used and it had been kept in a case lined with foam that had degraded and gone sticky. Consequently it took me quite a while to clean it. During the cleaning process the solvent I used to remove the foam also removed some of the finish from a few places on the camera which was unavoidable.
Two small bits of trim are missing: the indicator for the diaphragm selection ring and the indicator surround for the shutter speed selector switch. It would be very easy to make these up from paper, or something a bit more robust, because the instructions show a picture of them (instructions that you can find online).
The lens is excellent with no scratches or fungus. Focus ring, aperture ring, and zoom ring are all smooth in operation and the iris works correctly.
The light meter reacts to light but accuracy is unknown.
The battery is probably original and believed to be NiCd. I charged it on the charger for a few hours and it holds a charge, but how much is not known. Obviously the ideal solution is to either obtain or build a replacement battery pack that can take modern rechargeable cells.
When charged, the camera does turn over and seems to operate correctly for at least the basic functions. There was some old film fitted which allowed me to observe the functions and it seems okay in that respect.
Because of the number of small issues and concerns about the viability of the battery, I can only sell this on the basis that it is ‘for parts or not working’.
