" PORT KEMBLA
TOWNSHIP & HARBOUR
& Coal Loading Jetties"

A  rare picture..
Photographer : G. Oyston

Description :
" PORT KEMBLA "
An easterly view of the growing township of Port Kembla ( formerly Redpoint), with housing starting to increase around the western side of Wentworth Street.
The harbour can be seen, with ships near one of the coal loading jetties.... there were quite a few coal jetties from the 1800's being built along the Illawarra coast, to meet the demands of coal transportation from the coal mines along the Wollongong escarpment.

The Hotel at the southern end of Wentworth St stands out quite prominently, and it’s interesting to see the small row of houses in the foreground all have almost matching backyard toilets ( outhouse / dunny).

Great snapshot of Social History.

The postcard photograph  in acceptable/ good condition, expect marks/soiling and some edge wear, creases. Soiling, ink notation on reverse.
