Rainbow sherbet sunsets and gentle bluebonnets encapsulate the beauty of Saddle Rock Road, the place where I spent my teenage years, and, more importantly, the place where my mother passed down to me the love of thrifting. In a time when making do was more important than chasing the latest trends she had an almost divine ability to stretch our resources, trading dimes and quarters for treasures far more valuable than copper or nickel. She understood that, unlike people, things have the potential to live multiple lives. And that when something is loved for a time, and then discarded, it doesn’t mark the end of its story. It marks the beginning of its next chapter.
