Description
This is a well used, veteran, "One Thousand Yüan" note from the "Central Bank of China". These were printed by the Security Bank Note Company of Philadelphia and issued in 1945, the last year of World War II.
In 1945, China held its breath, caught between the horrors of war and the glimmer of hope for peace. The “Second Sino-Japanese War”, a brutal conflict that had ravaged the nation for eight years, finally neared its end. The country, scarred and exhausted, stood on the brink of liberation as Japan's defeat in World War II loomed. But amidst the anticipation of freedom, the shadows of a new conflict, the “Chinese Civil War”, began to cast their ominous presence over the land.
“The Central Bank of China” was located in Nanking (now Nanjing), China. After the “Chinese Civil War”, the bank was relocated to Taiwan by the Nationalist government. The bank was renamed to the “Central Bank of the Republic of China” in 1949. In 1961, the bank was replaced by the “Bank of Taiwan” as the central bank of Taiwan

Face: 657722 • Series 48-C • Purple. • Eight-character Chinese printer name. • Sun Yat-sen. He was a physician, writer, philosopher and revolutionary. He became the first President and the founding father of the Republic of China. Born November 12, 1866, he became President in 1912, and died on March 12, 1925, from liver cancer.
