Such fiction is fortunately not rare in the literature of hunting and fishing--but there has been almost no really fine writing about Bob Brister's part of the world: the Gulf Coast, from Louisiana's Mississippi Delta, along the Texas coastline, to the jungle-draped coast of Mexico. It is a wildly beautiful area, unbelievably rich in wildlife and in history, and the extraordinary way that Brister's fictional vignettes capture the truth of it--its sights, sounds, smells--will delight and move any reader.
