This original watercolor painting is full of color and activity. It shows a Peruvian village plaza with the Andes mountains in the background. Women have gathered near the entrance of the village church. Llamas, baskets full of yarns and large ceramic ollas are set beside them in the square. This painting has been beautifully matted, framed and covered with what feels to be plexiglass. The painting is on paper and signed and dated in the lower left. The signature looks to be spelled Natho and is dated 2009. The painting and the frame are in excellent condition.

For many centuries weaving has been an integral part of life in the small villages of Peru. Babies are wrapped with thick belts, covered with cloth and carried on their mother’s backs in handwoven carrying cloths. Three- and four-year-olds learn to spin yarn. By eight, girls start weaving belts and soon move on to more complicated textiles, such as llicllas (women’s shoulder cloths), ponchos and kaypinas (carrying cloths).
