People of a certain age will remember film strips like this. They were used in classrooms like a slide show but instead of individually mounted slides, they are on a short roll of film with each roll stored in a small metal can. A special projector was required to show the strips.

That's what I have for you here. A 35 mm format film strip on the topic of the Gulf Coast, U.S.A. The title image credits Still Film Incorporated of Los Angeles. The label on the can credits American Film Service of Chicago. The date of it is not listed but the cars in one of the slides looked like 1930s or '40s to me.

This strip is special for its remarkable quality. There are noticeably fewer scratches than usual on this film as I inspected it carefully, holding it only by the edges. I saw no repairs to the strip. 34 frames, 12 inch leader, 6 inch tail. The images are clear with excellent contrast. It is truly excellent quality.

The little steel can is tarnished on the outside but shiny-bright on the inside. It was very hard to open which may be why the film is in such good shape - perhaps it didn't get viewed very often on account of it being so difficult to open. I was eventually able to remove the lid by lifting hard with my finger nails while turning it several rounds and going slowly.

I have photographed several frames on a light table so you can see the title slide and the some of the ones following it. I've also caught a reflection on the back of the film to indicate its smooth surface and high quality.
