That's why they named Celica Supra the Import Car of the Year — over competition like Datsun 280 ZX Turbo, BMW, and Mercedes Benz! Motor Trend described Supra as "the stuff car nuts dream about...one of those cars that only comes along every ten years or so."

The right shape. An all-new aerodynamic wedge design so clean it actually has a lower coefficient of drag than a Porsche 928!

TOYOTA SUPRA. THE ULTIMATE TWIN-CAM FROM THE WORLD LEADER IN DOHC ENGINES.

It's a fact. Toyota has built more double overhead cam engines than anyone else in the world, over 400,000 high-performance units since the Twin-Cam Toyota 2000GT sports car of the mid-sixties. And the 1983 Supra's 2.8 liter Twin-Cam power plant is our hottest yet! 

Supra specifications include a world first in DOHC technology - a cam follower design incorporating hydraulic tappets. It’s the first DOHC engine you don’t have to adjust the valves on. Supra’s electronic fuel injection boosts power! A 1982 Motor Trend road test found that Supra moved from 0-50 mph in just 62 seconds. According to Motor Trend, that’s faster than RX-7 or 280 ZX! And Supra even has a cogged timing belt to lower underhood noise.

If the engine is the heart of a performance car, Supra is a very healthy specimen indeed. And the rest of the car is equally fit. You’ll find 4-wheel power disc brakes, ventilated to help reduce fade. Variable assist power rack and pinion steering for precise control. And independent rear suspension with limited slip differential and a new 4.10 ratio for quicker response off the  line.
