RARE 1/6 PLATE OCCUPATIONAL AMBROTYPE - BRITISH MAN STANDS NEXT TO OUTDOOR OCEAN BEACH WAGONS - RARER FULL CASE - To be honest, I did not realize the subject matter of this ambrotype when I purchased the cased image. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized this was taken on a beach in England. I remembered seeing the type of large canvas wagons in a movie or television show as the same type Queen Victoria used. These bathing wagons were used as changing stations that would be wheeled into the water for giving people a more private bathing experience. Hence the large wheels were used for pushing and pulling the occupants from the rolling waves of the sea. I happen to love the graphic quality of the large wheels and striped canvas. The man in the image could have been in charge of either renting these wagons or having his crew move these facilities for a small fee to visitors on the beach which would also make this an occupational image. The image is contained in a full case with a rarely seen pattern on the exterior. A fantastic look into the life of Victorian beach goers from the 19th Century. Good luck to the winner.

CONDITIONPlease view my detailed photos for the actual condition of this cased image as part of my description. The sixth plate ambrotype is in very good condition with only a few minor imperfections on the plate. The image contains very nice contrast, tonal range and wonderful sharpness. The case has a repaired leather hinge, both working clasps and gorgeous velvet pillow. A truly unusual cased image for any collector of 19th Century photography. I will carefully ship this item to the winner by way of USPS Priority Mail.
