RARE CUSTOM MADE WOODEN 1/4 PLATE CASE WITH MOP INLAY - MOUNTAIN & TIGER MOTIFS - If you are a 19th Century photography collector I can guarantee you have not seen this case ever before since it appears to be one-of-a-kind and custom made. The beautiful custom wood case has beautiful mother of pearl inlay elements with the sun, mountains and a tiger as front side decorations. The case contains the traditional velvet pillow and brass hardware. The housing may have been intended for a Japanese ambrotype given the look and construction, but I am not an expert on Japanese photographic history. I have enclosed a standard quart plate mat to show the size is correct, however, I am not sure any quarter plate will fit inside with a preserver as it is a tight fit with just a mat. What I can promise you is you will not find another example like this one in your lifetime, so good luck to the winner. 

CONDITION: Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition and as part of my description. This quarter plate case as mentioned above is custom made, meaning unique or OOAK. The case contains a both working brass hinges and the brass clasp system. The interior contains a beautiful period velvet pillow, the standard rails and a brass mat. You simply don't get more rare than this example. I will carefully box this item and ship this superb ambrotype to winning bidder by Priority Mail.
