RARE HAND TINTED CIRCUS CDV - BARNUM'S TOM THUMB, HIS WIFE & THEIR FAKE CHILD - You are bidding on a very rare hand tinted CDV of P.T. Barnum's most famous attraction, Mr. Tom Thumb. In this circus collectable, you have Tom Thumb, his wife and their pretend child. They were without a child, but Barnum would send his advance team to the next town and have them recruit a child for them to pretend they were a family of three. This made for a new act and better ticket sales. What makes this original image so rare is the fantastic period hand tinting applied. Wonderful photo quality along with superb hand tinting is what makes this circus collectable very desirable. There are no notations on the back of the mount, just the printed info at the front side at the bottom. The mount itself has a few minor imperfections along the edges and several of the corners. Overall, you are considering a rare 19th Century circus photo containing Barnum's largest grossing attraction during his lifetime, Mr. Charles Stratton aka Tom Thumb.
