Dragon Armor - Tiger I Mid-Production

Unit - sPzAbt 509 - Schwere Panzer Abteilung 509 was formed in September 1943 around a group of 45 Tiger Is from the disbanded 22 Panzer Division. It fought on the Eastern Front, seeing action in Ukraine as part of Army Group South at Kirovograd, Kiev and Pavlova. It was attached to SS Panzer Division Das Reich in November 1943.

Campaign - Eastern Front - 1944 - in early 1944 it was involved in the Second Battle of Kiev and retreated across the Ukraine. After receiving the Tiger Is, the battalion returned to the front in June 1944. On 22 June 1944, the Russians launched Operation Bagration and the 509th (attached to Army Group Center) was in their line of advance. On 8 September, the detachment lost 16 Tigers near Kielce, Poland. In September the battalion was pulled back to be equipped with Tiger IIs and then attached to IV SS Panzer Korps.

Markings - tan and dark brown camouflage - and No. 122 in white on turret along with extra track armor. Detailed track cables on each side.
