Fought and won over such notables as John Donaldson, Joe Goss and Jack Stewart and was generally accepted as world champion 1882-1892
He was counted out for the firt time in his life on Sept 2 1892 When he fought and lost to James J Corbett in a 21 Round Glove Fight"

Jim Jefferies (wt. 210)
Former Sparring Partner of Fitzsimmons, Jefferies was trained by Tommy Ryan to use a stance which became famous as the Jefferies Crouch He won the title from Fitzsimmons in 1888 in the 11 round fight. 
Known for defending the title many times, he remained champion until 1910 when he came out of retirement to face Jack Johnson, who then became champ. "

Jack Johnson (wt. 215)
Considered by many greatest heavyweight of all time
Won the heavyweight title from Tommy Burns in a 14 round bout in 1908. Burns was the accepted Champion after the retirement of Jim Jefferies in 1904.  
Jefferies, after 6 years of retirement challenged Johnson in 1910 and lost in the 15 rounds.  Johnson lost the belt to Jess Willard in 1915"

Fought John G Heenan in a Bare Knuckle Championship FIght on April 17, 1860, in England
The battle lasted for 37 rounds- 2 Hrs, 20 min- and ended in a draw with Sayers retaining the belt"

James J Corbett (Wt. 184) 
Greatest Modern Fighter
Fought and Beat John L. Sullivan in 1892 in the first championship fight in which padded gloves were used. 
He also won a three rounder from Charley Mitchell, English Title Claimant, to become the undisputed title holder and the first american to gain international recognition"

Jake Kilrain (wt. 220)
Kilrain was unoficially named champion by R.K. Fox, Publisher of the Police Gazette.  Eventually John L Sullivan Challenged Kilrain to prove his right to the belt.
The To champions met on July 8, 1989,  in the last bare knuckle, fight of all time.  THe battle was in the 75th round when Kilrain's second threw in the sponge and 
John L Remained Champ.

An Englishman, Came to this country in 1890 and knocked out the orignal Jack Dempsey to with the World's Middleweight Title, Six years later he fought James Corbett to win the heavyweight Belt in the 14th round.  This he lost after a little over one year to Jim Jefferies, a former sparring partner."

Jess Willard (wt. 260)
By virtue of his size, (6'7"- 260#), Willard was considered by many to have the best chance of taking the Giant Johnson, who had held the title since 1910.
A bout was arranged for april 15, 1915, in Havana.  the Fight Lasted 26 Rounds and Willard was the new Champion."
