From an Estate Sale of late 19th-early 20th century CRYSTAL & CHINA, we offer from a GERMAN porcelain manufactory in a WONDERFUL TRUE ANTIQUE 3 1/4" high by 3 5/8" diameter HAND PAINTED MUSTACHE CUP(made from the 1890's-1920's) WITH A FLORAL PATTERN AND GOLD EMBELLISHMENTS - A GOLD LEAF PATTERN AT TOP RIM FRAMED BY HOLD VERGE LINES; GOLD BAND AROUND INSIDE TOP RIM; GOLD TRIM ON MUSTACHE SHELF; AND HEAVY GOLD OVERLAY ON HANDLE. Marked on underside with "Germany" in red.

IN SEARCHING FOR SALES OF THESE ITEMS ON EBAY/WORTHPOINT WE FOUND THAT MANY OF THESE ITEMS WERE MISIDENTIFIED - MUSTACHE CUPS AND LARGE PLAIN CUPS WERE DESCRIBED AS SHAVING CUPS/MUGS, AND, SHAVING CUPS DESCRIBED AS MUSTACHE CUPS.

MUSTACHE CUP - HAS A SMALL OPENING AT EDGE TO DRINK FROM; A SHAPED SHELF TO HOLD THE MUSTACHE; AND A LARGE OPENING TO CONTAIN THE LIQUID.
SHAVING CUP/MUG - HAS A PERFORATED SHELF DIVIDER WHICH HOLDS THE SHAVING FOAM AND UNDERNEATH WHICH IS FOUND THE HOT WATER - THERE IS NO SPOUT TO POUR OUT THE CONTENTS WHEN FINISHED AND A LARGE MUG WITHOUT THE SHELF CANNOT BE CALLED A SHAVING MUG UNLESS SUPPORTED BY MANUFACTURER'S DOCUMENTATION.
SKUTTLE SHAVING CUP/MUG - IS A DOUBLE WALLED CERAMIC WITH A RECESSED PERFORATED SHELF SPANNING THE ENTIRE TOP CUP AREA, WHICH HOLDS THE SHAVING FOAM; AND, AN ELONGATED FUNNEL/SPOUT OPENING RUNNING ABOUT 2/3rds THE WAY UP ON THE SIDE OPPOSITE THE HANDLE, WHICH IS USED TO FILL UP THE HOT WATER AND ENABLES THE POURING OUT OF CONTENTS WHEN FINISHED.
CONDITION: this 95-134YEAR OLD cup is in EXCELLENT CONDITION without any damage, wear, staining or crazing to be seen - APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN NEVER USED. GOLD EMBELLISHMENTS ARE ALMOST COMPLETELY INTACT.
HOWEVER, FOR SAKE OF COMPLETENESS, WE NOTE A LITTLE PATCH OF ROUGHNESS/UNEVENNESS ON THE BOTTOM UNDERSIDE RIM, MOST LIKELY FROM MANUFACTURING(SEE LAST PHOTO).
ATTRIBUTION/PROVENANCE: printed marks on underside confirm that this item was made and decorated by a German porcelain manufactory.
