The official currency in circulation in Ecuador for many years was the Sucre. It was created on March 22, 1884, in honor of the Grand Marshal ofAyacucho, Antonio Jose de Sucre. It remained in circulation until January 9, 2000, when Ecuador adopted the US dollar as its currency at an exchange rate of 25,000 sucres to 1 dollar.

This collection consists of 11 completely original banknotes going from 1984 to 1999, which were part of the last issuance that circulated in the country before the dollarization.
