Description

This is a veteran, but still presentable, "Ten Piastres" note from the “Arab Republic of Egypt”. This type was originally authorized by the law of 1940 during World War II when it was the “Kingdom of Egypt” but the “Arab Republic” was still issuing notes under that law. This one was issued between 1967 and 1975.

“The United Arab Republic”, was a union between Egypt and Syria. For three years, between 1958 and 1961, they shared a Government under President Gamal Abdel Nasser, aiming for greater Arab unity. However, differences in political ideologies and internal pressures led to Syria's secession in 1961.

Despite Syria's departure, Egypt, under its new official name, the "Arab Republic of Egypt", continued on this path for another decade. This period saw international involvement in conflicts like the Arab-Israeli Wars. In 1971, President Anwar Sadat marked a shift by officially dissolving the "Arab Republic of Egypt" designation and reinstating the simpler "Egypt".
