[What is USDA Organic Certification? ]
USDA-certified organic cane is grown and processed according to U.S. federal guidelines regarding soil quality, pest and weed control methods, and the use of fertilizers.
In accordance with these guidelines, growers use natural materials as much as possible and use biologically based farming methods, both physically and mechanically.
Cane that is certified USDA Organic must be certified as grown in soil free of prohibited substances for three years prior to harvest.
D'Addario has been farming organically since shortly after acquiring Rico in 2004, but achieving USDA organic certification is a years-long process.
