Sears began selling Dunlap Branded tools in the late 1930s. Dunlap Tools appeared in Sears Catalogs until the 1950s. In 1938 or 39, Moore Drop Forging Company began making tools for Sears/Craftsman and marked their products with a single letter “V”.

This Set of Three Wrenches is part of a Set of Five which were sold with a Patented Holder. We did not find the other Wrenches nor the Holder. Despite this, the Three Wrenches are a fine example of the high quality tools produced by Moore and which allowed it to be a supplier for Sears/Craftsman for many years. Moore was purchased in the 1960s and changes soon caused the contract arrangement to end.

Because these Wrenches were forged with “DUNLAP” and and “V” rather than being stamped as later models were, we conclude that they were made no later than the very late 1930s or very early 1940s.

The Wrenches are in good condition despite their age. In Craftsman Catalogs of the 1930s and 40s this style of Wrench were finished with black paint and we have found some in the past with remnants of such painting. There is no obvious evidence of paint on these which might suggest production outside the 30s and 40s. In the 1950s Wrenches of a similar design were stamped with “DUNLAP” and not forged in. Our best guess remains that the Wrenches were made during the 1930s and 40s.

The Wrenches show no significant evidence of misuse or abuse (see images) and could be put to work upon receipt. They would likely last another eighty or so years. They would also fit nicely in a Show-and-Tell Collection of old tools.

We will ship the Wrenches by USPS Ground Advantage on the next regular business day following receipt of payment.
