This listing is for a truly superb and large pair of early Derby figures by William Duesbery & Co., circa 1770-80's.
This remarkable 18th-century porcelain duo resonates with all the charm and character that Derby porcelain has become renowned for by collectors. The hand-painted details on each child remain vibrant and virtually unscathed by the passage of time. Each whimsical figure depicts a child in a fanciful costume and cape embracing their beloved "macaroni" pet. "Macaroni" was a term employed to describe a dandy wearing decorative clothes. It was also applied to animals. Here, the boy's puppy is a macaroni dog that dons a black tricorn hat, while the girl's kitten is portrayed with a linen bonnet over her tiny head. Each figure is affixed to a scrolled Rococo-style base with 22-karat gold embellishments. The Crown Derby pair is extremely rare, with a similar set found in the prestigious Museum of Victoria and Albert in London.
Excellent, preowned condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing.
Do not pass up these museum-quality pieces!
Each figure measures approximately 7.75"H.
Marked with a red factory insignia, as pictured.
