Description
This is a handsome, fully original, silver, "Doppelgroschen" or “One Twelfth Thaler” from "Electoral Saxony" specifically the Albertine branch, in Germany.
It was struck at Leipzig and dated 1694 during the last year of the reign of Johann George IV. Born in 1668, in 1691 he succeeded his father Johann George III to the “Electorate” after the latter's short reign (1680-1691). Although his rule was brief, it was marked by some interesting political developments.
During the “Nine Years War” (King William’s War in America), he withdrew his troops from the “Imperial Army” over differences with the “Holy Roman Emperor” Leopold I. They later reconciled and his troops returned. Johann George died at just age 25 from smallpox, which he had caught from his mistress, on April 27, 1694.

The Coin: It saw some hands over the years and shows some light, even, honest wear. Fully original, it has never been cleaned and is scarcer as such. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
